S-Series Application Acceleration Appliances

Certeon's S-Series Application Acceleration Appliances provide high performance application acceleration to remote users. The S-Series is a physical appliance that resides in both the data center and the branch office for those environments that have not implemented a virtualized infrastructure. The S-Series appliances and systems running aCelera Virtual Appliance software will interoperate within the same distributed enterprise.

aCelera supports the same features that the S-Series does (as described below) without the requirement of a proprietary hardware appliance. aCelera software can be pre-configured on a standard server, along with a virtual machine operating system, and sold as a complete system that can also support other applications. Both aCelera and S-Series appliances will interoperate to support mixed virtualized and non-virtualized application environments within the same distributed enterprise.

Certeon S-Series Capabilities

Speed - Certeon is uniquely able to understand application interactions, identify application data objects in transit, and deliver true Application Intelligent Networking. S-Series appliances are based on breakthrough Certeon patent-pending Secure Acceleration Technology™ (SAT). SAT is made up of two core components: Application Acceleration Blueprints that understand the objects and messaging semantics of applications and a unique Object Differencing Engine that uses this knowledge to reduce application response times and minimize traffic and chatter over a WAN. The result is an unprecedented reduction in application response time.

Security and Acceleration - Certeon is the first and only solution that securely accelerates all HTTPS (i.e., SSL acceleration) traffic from the desktop to the data center. Strong encryption and authentication makes the HTTPS data uncompressible, rendering traditional WAN optimization technologies ineffective. Since the S-Series is application intelligent, the appliances can accelerate application data while maintaining end-to-end security. In addition, stored data within the S-Series appliances is always encrypted using standard encryption protocols.

Scalability - As the number of branch office users increases and the number of applications they access also increases, WAN utilization (i.e., the amount of bandwidth required per user) increases dramatically. Also, as more enterprises deploy Web-based collaboration environments, the amount of Web-based rich traffic going over the enterprise network increases as well. By optimizing application traffic and eliminating the need for additional bandwidth, Certeon can provide access to more business applications and to more workers in offices domestically and around the world, as well as facilitate the deployment of application collaboration environments.

Reduced Application Response Time

S-Series accelerates all traffic and achieves the highest levels of acceleration when accelerating at the application level. Application response times over the WAN are dramatically reduced, typically by over 90%.

S-Series builds on a robust, multi-faceted security architecture. Key features include:

Certeon's patent-pending Secure Acceleration Technology (SAT) enables the S-Series to act as a distributed SSL offload device. The S-Series appliance manages the SSL connections in the remote office for the purpose of accelerating application traffic. The Certeon appliance doesn't compromise session security or the integrity or manageability of the enterprise's key management infrastructure. With SAT, SSL session management and acceleration is seamless and transparent to both clients and servers. There are no new certificates or keys to manage. Server keys always remain secure in the data center.
All accelerated traffic over the WAN is securely encapsulated in IPsec tunnels between authenticated S-Series appliances.
Disk encryption ensures that sensitive data is always secured, even if the S-Series itself is lost or stolen.
Certeon's patent-pending Secure Acceleration Technology approach to distributed SSL offload key management ensures that private keys and certificates are retained only at secured data center locations.
Devices are managed via SSH and user access is authenticated via RADIUS. Secure methods are used to upload log files and update firmware. SNMPv2 is employed in a read-only mode.
S-Series accepts communications only from authorized IP addresses and then only responds on ports associated with HTTPS, SSH, and SNMP.
