Today, many enterprises use file shares as a repository for the companies' intellectual property in both headquarter and branch locations. Regulatory and security demands and economic realities have driven IT departments to remove storage from the branch office and consolidate it in large centralized data centers. The WAN that separates branch office workers from these datacenters must support the Common Internet File System (CIFS) protocol, which enables client systems to request file and print services from server systems (i.e., Network Access Storage (NAS)). CIFS is based on the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol, which was designed for LAN, not WAN use, causing a number of remote file access performance issues because of high network congestion and latency.
Certeon’s aCelera enable the acceleration of CIFS-based file applications over WANs through its unique Application Acceleration Blueprints. In addition to accelerating generic HTTP/S and specific application network traffic, Certeon will also identify, difference, and reduce the amount of CIFS traffic to significantly improve remote file access response times between branch offices and the data center.
